9 DAYS GORILLA TREKKING
Day 2 Kisoro and the Kigezi region
After breakfast, leave Kampala Southward to reach Kisoro. Stop over at the Equator for a photograph. Then you will pass via the Ankole region, where you see the typical Ankole cattle, coffee plantations and the different vegetations of Uganda, up to the terraced and cultivated hills of the Kigezi region, best known as “the Switzerland of Africa”. Kisoro is located within the area of the rain tropical forests at the borders between Uganda, Congo and Rwanda, at the foothills of Muhavura and other Volcanoes. Dinner and overnight at Kisoro Tourist Hotel.
Day 3 Mountains Gorilla Tracking in Virunga National Park
Early morning departure for the mountain gorilla tracking in Virunga National Park in Congo. After the briefing from the authorities of the park, set off for the trekking into the rain tropical forest searching for the habituated gorilla family. You remain close to the beautiful primates for over one hour, for observation and photography. Make sure you carry with you packed lunch and water.
After the experience, proceed to Goma, for dinner and overnight at Hotel Ihusi.
Day 4 The navigation of Lake Kivu
After breakfast leave Goma for Bukavu. You will embark on the ferry boat which will take you in the other side of the marvellous Lake Kivu. You reach Bukavu in the evening for dinner and overnight at Orchid's Hotel.
Day 5 Lowland Gorilla Tracking in Kahuzi - Biega National Park
Early morning you enter the Kahuzi-Biega National Park for tracking the Gorilla Gorilla Graueri, best known as the Lowland gorilla. The park gate is about 50 km from Bukavu and it has been designated Biosphere Reserve for humanity by UNESCO for its important biodiversity. The park is named after the two extinct volcanoes Khauzi and Biega. The activity starts early morning and it can last for few hours, the time necessary to encounter the primates, following the ranger in the forest's trials. Make sure you carry with you packed lunch and water.
After the trekking you will go back to Bukavu for relax, dinner and overnight at Orchid's Hotel.
Day 6
After breakfast, spend the morning free at leisure. After lunch you will take the ferry boat for returning to Goma for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Lake Bunyonyi
After breakfast leave Congo and return to Uganda, reaching the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi, one of the most attractive scenery in Uganda. After lunch at Arcadia Cottages, you can have a boat ride along the Lake to explore the sites of the Bakiga culture and for amazing bird watching. Dinner and overnight at Arcadia Cottages, where you enjoy the best panoramic view on the Lake.
Day 8
After breakfast, return to Kampala. Possible transfer to Entebbe for evening flights. Dinner and overnight in Kampala. Optional activity: stop over at Lake Mburo National Park for game drive in search of antelope species, impalas, zebras and birds.
Day 9
Transfer to Entebbe International Airport.
